VeganMoFo: Dad's Chocolate Peanut Butter Bon Bons

Recipe: Chocolate Peanut Butter Bon Bons [GLUTEN FREE]
Family Member: Dad

Brief Description:
Chocolate. Peanut butter. Need I say more? An easy-to-make super sweet confection that will impress pretty much everyone out there.

Original Ingredients:
1 cup chunky peanut butter (smooth also works just fine)
2 tbsp melted butter
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tbsp butter

Original Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, combine the peanut butter, melted butter, and powdered sugar. Blend with a fork until well mixed.
2. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 1 hour.
3. Combine chocolate chips and solid butter. Heat until melted and smooth when stirred, either in a double boiler or in the microwave.
4. Using a fork, dip the balls in the melted chocolate. Let the excess drip off and place the dipped balls on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate until hardened.

Vegan Notes: Just sub Earth Balance (or another vegan butter-like-substance) for the butter and you’re good to go!

  3. First baked oatmeal, now chocolate peanut butter bonbons! My mom made something similar when I was little and I'd very nearly forgotten all about them until now. Yum!

The baked oatmeal was delicious, btw.

  4. That looks like magic on a cookie sheet. They seem so easy. My daughter is allergic to pb, but I think I will try to sub soy-butter and try them. I have all the ingredients at home already, yay!

  10. They're super easy and super messy if you make them the way I did. I skipped the fork and used my fingers to dunk 'em in the chocolate!

  11. mmmmmmmmm! my mom used to make these when i was little.
i like to fancy 'em up by dropping them into a glassine candy cup while the chocolate is still wet. <3

  12. Yes, Buckeyes! I can't let anyone make these at the bakery anymore, because I just eat them all. It's such a "Dad" treat too, so awesome!
