We just returned from a family visit (yes, that's Andy, DocDufresne, and myself) to Farm Sanctuary's Watkins Glen shelter. Wow! What a trip! Not only is Watkins Glen, NY a gloriously beautiful and serene locale, the sanctuary itself is something to behold. The animals and property are very well-maintained and it was a breath of fresh air to be in the midst of people who care so deeply for the well-being of the 700+ animals that call the sanctuary home. Andy enjoyed playing frisbee on the lawn behind the "People Barn" and chomping on the water coming from the hose at Rainbow Bridge memorial garden. DocDufresne and I loved meeting many happy animals, several of who sought attention for as long as you would allow in the form of pets and kind words (returned by nudges and intense stares). We took hundreds of photos, including many of Andy. You can find many of these below.

ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, Farm Sanctuary really is a lovely place. We were also happy with the breakfast they served and the local vegan ice cream :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your blog!! I also enjoy your photography. I've been vegetarian for two years and I am currently working to become vegan.
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you very much! And congrats on starting the journey that is veganism. I became vegan a little under three years ago, so I'm still a bit of a newb, but I'm happy to answer questions if you should ever have any!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me - I was directed to your blog via a friend who was the person who initially rescued your dog off the streets in West Philly, to see some recent pictures of him. Love your blog, and your dog, and your Farm Sanctuary pictures: I just got back from a weekend of volunteering there, and wish I was still there. Such an amazing place.
ReplyDeleteGabriela,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments and for taking the time to check out my blog. I just had a comment from Lou (who I assume is the friend you're referring to!) and I am just blown away! Andy is so special to us, as I'm sure any amount of time spent on this site will tell you!
Farm Sanctuary is wonderful. We're hoping to make it back again soon. Keep up the awesome volunteering!!
