Wissahickon Trail Classic- June 5, 2010

Attention Philadelphia area runners and walkers!

I thought I'd get an announcement in for a really great event that's happening next Saturday, June 5th, in the BEAUTIFUL Wissahickon Valley Park.

The Wissahickon Trail Classic, a 10K trail run and 5k walk, is produced by Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers, a grass roots nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to restore the natural ecosystem of the 1,800-acre Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia.
ALL proceeds go directly to restoring the Wissahickon!

Advanced registration is still being accepted online here.

There will even be free vegan pizza and other goodies!

Although I won't be there this year helping out and taking photos, I'll definitely be there in spirit! As will Doc, who had a great time running last year and planned to participate again this year prior to our move.

In other news, I will be posting about Doc's and my recent move across country very soon. Stay tuned!

Goodbye Philadelphia!

In mere hours I will be leaving this lovely city, the first home I had with the love of my life and our two furry sons. After a quick trip to visit our moms and families for Mother's Day, DocDufresne, Andy, Emerson, and I will embark on a cross country trip to Portland, OR.

The move has been hoped for, but has happened rather suddenly with a VERY recent job offer and VERY imminent start date for Doc. In less than a week we've had to wrap up projects at work and our volunteering gigs (Goodbye, Cares4Pets!), pack up the apartment, and say goodbye to as many folks as we were able to (some of whom we actually knew).

It's bitter sweet. There are many things about Philadelphia that I'll miss and forever remember fondly. Time spent in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Wissahickon Valley Park, and Old City. Meals shared at Vientiane Cafe, Horizons, and Bacio Italian Restaurante. Relationships cultivated and strengthened with co-workers, Cares4Pets, friends, family. Our first home together (I assume that I'll quickly forget the MANY negative aspects of this apartment!), the great working experience I've had...the list goes on.

So farewell, Philadelphia! We'll miss you! Thank you for the past two years!

Readers, see you in Portland!
